SUBJECT: Use of Double Walled Corrugated Polyethylene Pipe

Dear Sir:

You have received a copy of the evaluation of corrugated polyethylene pipe installed on construction projects. The basic conclusion from this report is that this material appears to perform acceptably if installed properly. Therefore, its use has been approved for residential driveways and certain other applications effective immediately. The attached packet of information describes the allowable uses of this pipe and includes installation procedures. I request your assistance in educating contractors and monitoring installations to ensure quality installations.

This approval is limited to the use of large diameter, double walled corrugated polyethylene pipe which meets AASHTO M294 TYPE "S" specifications, when used as an alternative to either corrugated steel or concrete pipe for the applications listed. Under no circumstances will the single walled (type "C") pipe be allowed for driveways or storm drainage applications.
